In darkness, ELLIE GOULDING turns on the “Lights”!

Ellie Goulding has a voice which can only be described as magical and with it, a unique style that is beautifully reflected in the album – HALCYON!

It’s a mixture of classical, electro-pop, Hip-Hop and Dub; which is not surprising as singer/songwriters Bjork, Joni Mitchell, Lauryn Hill and artists from her own generation such as; Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake and Nicki Minaj have influenced her sound. She says she is “blown away” by them.

The one thing that annoys me about an album is each track sounding similar, in which case, there are only one or two songs that are really any good…the others are just kind of there! This is NOT the case with HALCYON! It is one of those albums you can spend the FULL hour and ten minutes listening to, one track after the other and never feel like you’ve heard it all before. If you are someone who appreciates music that doesn’t quite fit in one genre and doesn’t follow a specific formula that only “sells” but lacks originality, you’ll enjoy Ellie’s album!

“Figure 8” – One of the heavier dub tracks, it’s heart pounding beat and Ellie’s powerful vocal instrument perfectly describe an addiction to a battle with love and the “cat and mouse” chase that often comes with it! Listen …CRANK UP this track and you’ll get lost in your OWN frustration of being or having been in a “Give and take…” (and what feels like more GIVE) kind of relationship with someone in your life! I could listen to this track over and over! Wait…I have!
