NEW JERSEY – What would you do for $600 and some Fright Fest passes?
As the Halloween season approaches, Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson has reprised its nutty “Coffin Challenge,” which not only requires its contestants to lay in a closed coffin for 30 hours — granted there are occasional bathroom breaks and there’s a mesh opening on top for breathing, but still — but endure some new challenges and games thrown in for good, spooky measure.
The grand prize winner, who will tabulate the most points by winning games and participating in challenges, walks away with the cash prize, two Six Flags Gold Passes and two Fright Fest Haunted Maze Passes. Runners up win prizes, too, ranging from Fright Fest day passes to season passes.
The challenge is live now and finishes Monday, October 14 at 8:30 p.m.
Games include “live bugs, pungent food items and trivia,” Six Flags said in a statement, plus surprise visits from Fright Fest freaks and live critters like snakes, spiders and skunks. But the most insufferable bit of all may be the presence of a looping playlist of music that includes “Baby Shark” and other tunes, disallowing sleep for the unlucky six contestants.
More rules:
- Participants must stay in the coffin except for a 13-minute bathroom break every three hours
- Participants who step outside the coffins for any reason, with the exception of designated bathroom breaks or to participate in challenges, will be disqualified
- All meals must be eaten in the coffin
Apply now to give this insane challenge a try (must be 18 or older with photo ID). In 2018, more than 4,000 applicants vied for the chance to occupy one of the theme park’s six coffins, Staten Island Advance reports.
