We are getting closer to low income bus passes.
The public works committee has now passed a report on costs, eligibility and timelines.
If this is approved here is what you can expect:
- A monthly pass would cost 30 per cent less, at $71.75 starting in May 2020.
- In 2021 the price would then drop to $62.75
- AND in 2022 the pass would cost $53.35
The city says the program will cost $3 million a year by 2023.
There are people who agree and disagree with the plan. Those against say that transit is already struggling to keep up with current service levels and that money could be spent in a better way.
Those in favour say that this is a great option for those who can’t afford the transit, such as students, and single parents.
If approved, the program will be reviewed after one year to see if any changes are needed.
