While it may seem scary, most calls aren’t considered Emergencies, but still Urgent.
From Mash Viral:
The number of calls to the police in Winnipeg has risen – and the dispatchers are struggling under the weight of the long queues.
Data collected under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act shows that between January and September 2017, authorities responded to 55,073 priority three calls – calls that are considered urgent but not emergency.
In the same period of 2018, this number rose slightly to 58,163 calls.
But by the end of September 2019, the cops had handled 76,305 priority-three calls. That’s around 38 percent more than in 2017.
“I think it’s fair to first check the number of emergency calls we receive in our services,” said Stacey Cann, Communications Manager of the Winnipeg Police Service.
According to the police, a priority call can range from a knife stab to a robbery, but the call’s rating depends on each individual event.
According to Cann, a Priority Two call is typically distinguished from a Priority 3 call if a person’s life is in danger.
While the number of priority three calls has increased significantly in recent years, the number of priority two calls deemed to be not only urgent but also urgent has remained relatively constant.
