Just because cannabis is legal, is it okay to offer it as prizes in a raffle?
At a Dawson Creek Minor Hockey tournament (B.C) an eight-year-old won $200 worth of marijuana products.
The grandfather of the player said: “Each team is usually responsible for putting a gift basket or prize package together with a minimum value of $50, and then what they do is they have a big setup and they have a paper bag taped in front of each one of these prizes.”
The boy spent $10 on raffle tickets, and was allowed to bid on whichever prizes he liked.
The father picked up the prize, and took a photo… The pictures show various chocolate edibles, vanilla chai and more.
They explained to the boy that the prize contained drugs, and that he therefore couldn’t have any of it, “he was mad.”
The eight-year-old thought that he won chocolate…
However, the Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Association said that the prize was marked for adults, and the prize was never out in the open where kids were.
Hmmmm…
Thoughts?
