International Women’s Day is on Sunday!
This year women around this world will stand together so we can all be #EachforEqual!
What does #EachforEqual mean?
“An equal world is an enabled world.”
Together we can challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.
When is this taking place?
On Sunday (March 8th), we are Celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness and taking action for equality.
How did it start?
There is not a specific day it began, but they say the roots of it started in 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding voting rights, better pay and shorter working hours.
In 1913, IWD was moved to March 8th, and it has been celebrated on that day ever since.
In 2011, former US President Barack Obama announced March would be ‘Women’s History Month’.
Why do we still celebrate it?
To stand up for full gender equality– this is still an ongoing issue. There is still a gender pay gap around the world and women are not being represented in business or politics (as equals). OH, and lets not forget there are numbers that show education, health and violence towards women is still worse than men.
Fact: “the gender gap won’t close until 2186.”
So yeah, on IWD, women across the globe come together to force the world to recognize these inequalities! Together let’s make a difference.
