The U.S. House of Representatives decided to impeach President Donald Trump. He was charged with high crimes and misdemeanors. This is only the third time an impeachment has happened in American history.
Next, the case is headed to the Senate for a trial expected to start next month.
The House voted 230-197 to charge Trump with abuse of power and 229-198 to charge him with obstruction of Congress.
But what does this mean?
“Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. Impeachment does not in itself remove the official definitively from office; it is similar to an indictment in criminal law, and thus it is essentially the statement of charges against the official.” – Wikipedia
