WHO YOU GONNA CALL? The original Ghostbusters??
Well, the talks of a reunion are back on
Dan Aykroyd has just reignited talk of a third Ghostbusters film.
Going way back, Aykroyd’s Ghost Corps. had long been developing a Ghostbusters 3, which was constantly being held up by costar Bill Murray. Story details leaked (thanks to Bloody Disgusting) as we learned that the film was to star Dana (Sigourney Weaver) and Peter Venkman’s (Murray) lovechild, Oscar, a postgrad student who is forced to take over the business after his father dies in the first scene. Murray’s character was to be a ghost in the third film, which allegedly had been green-lit up until Harold Ramis got sick and eventually passed away.
Feig then came in and put a new spin on Ghostbusters, assembling an all-female crew and attempting to echo the original film’s comedic cast. Aykroyd wasn’t a fan, publicly expressing disdain for the film and blaming its failure on Feig’s ballooned budget. While Feig has expressed interest in returning to the director’s chair for a sequel, Aykroyd will never let that happen and has not only been developing an animated feature, but also reviving the original long-developed Ghostbuster 3.
Ghostbusters News has the story, they report that Aykroyd was the special guest on Tuesday night’s episode of AXS TV’s The Big Interview with Dan Rather and revealed they are currently working on the screenplay that, get this, allegedly could have the support of Murray.
“There is a possibility of a reunion with the three remaining Ghostbusters,” said Aykroyd. “It’s being written right now.”
He added:
“I think Billy will come. The story’s so good. Even if he plays a ghost.”
