The tragic death of Kobe Bryant has sparked a new law… one that I’m a little disappointed has to exist in the first place.
After first responders took photos of the fatal crash site and shared them with the media, the governor of California signed a bill making it illegal for them to do so in the future.
“Proud to report that my bill, The #KobeBryant Act of 2020, was signed today by @GavinNewsom. #AB2655 will prohibit first responders from taking photos of the deceased outside of job duties,” Gipson tweeted Monday night.
With this new law, any first responders who take personal photos of the deceased for any reason other than official law enforcement purposes or genuine public interest can be charged with a misdemeanor and could face a fine of up to $1,000 per photo if convicted.
