Hundreds of people gathered this past weekend in Steinbach to protest masks… a good turnout in terms of numbers’, that is until people started getting ticketed for not complying with the current regulations across the province. One of the rally’s speakers, Lewis Weiss was slapped with a $1,296 ticket for breaking the very regulations he was protesting and encouraging others not to follow.
The officer who handed Weiss the ticket was then berated by the crowd…
A spokesperson for the province said this: “Our government finds it particularly disappointing to learn that excessive verbal abuse was directed at enforcement officials who were on site and issuing tickets,” they said. “These enforcement officials should be commended for doing their part to help keep Manitobans safe from the kind of irresponsible behavior that was on display today.”

Mayor Earl Funk believes a large number of the attendees at Saturdays rally were not even residents of the city saying: “The organizers are not from Steinbach and this is not the heart of Steinbach… I think it was very insensitive to hold a rally such as this,”.
