You’ll soon be able to watch brand new movies much faster than ever before! Universal just signed a deal with Cineplex where they will have an exclusive three weekend theatrical release before being available on digital and stream-able platforms… this is much more convenient for people who want to see a movie, don’t want to go to theatre for it (which you cant do right now anyway) and don’t want to wait a few months until the movie is available for the public!
Under this new agreement, Universal Pictures, Focus Entertainment and DreamWorks animation can now put new movies on different streaming platforms in as little as 17 days after their release.
“Under the terms of the Universal agreement, films that pass $50 million US at the North American box office on opening weekend will play exclusively for 31 days, or five weekends, before Universal can choose to send them to premium on demand, which prices rentals at $19.99 or higher.” they specified in documents.
