A number of classic Disney movies have been removed from Disney + due to concerns they show racist stereotypes or breached new content advisories.
Now anyone watching on the Disney + Kids section under the age of 7 has been blocked from watching Peter Pan, Aristocats, Swiss Family Robinson and Dumbo.
In October, Disney included a warning graphic about the content on these movies that read “This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures.”
They went on to say “These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.”
“Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe.”
The decision to now remove the films from Disney Plus came after a group of experts re-assessed the content and determined they should only be viewable on adult accounts.
