Roku is the latest streaming service to jump on the coat tails of creating original content for its users. While they aren’t creating the content themselves and are instead purchasing rights from other media companies to stream on the Roku Channel, this is the same way Netflix got started with its original content so It’s not too crazy to think that might be the direction Roku is planning on heading in the future.
“The continued growing scale of The Roku Channel enables us to be more creative and expansive in sourcing cost-effective content,” management wrote in its fourth-quarter letter to shareholders.
