Here’s what could really happen when you flush a gold fish down the toilet… Like most species of fish, even goldfish grow to the size of their environment; so if you flush them, it might end up creating a very VERY big problem.
In Minnesota right now, they’ve actually warned the public about the dangers of flushing pets down the toilet because several giant goldfish were found in the lake…
Goldfish are relatives of the Carp and can grow surprisingly large when given the opportunity.
Please don't release your pet goldfish into ponds and lakes! They grow bigger than you think and contribute to poor water quality by mucking up the bottom sediments and uprooting plants.

While you may think your cute little goldfish will probably just die after being flushed, that is really not the case. They can survive in harsh climates, they breed like crazy, are really hard to get rid of and completely disrupt ecosystems.
Goldfish are now considered an invasive species in certain parts of Minnesota.
