To try and prevent serious fires and harm from occurring and to help our un-homed population have a more comfortable winter, Burn barrels have began being distributed to encampments that the city is aware of; They have noted that there are many less encampments this winter compared to last and are crediting the cities poverty reduction strategy for that.
“We have an initial 15 barrels to launch the pilot project and we’re partnering with our community agencies to identify encampments,” Scott Willkinson, Assistant Chief of the WFPS told reporters.
Depending how this project goes over this winter, they will look into providing the barrels again when the temperatures start to dip again in the fall.
