With the World Cup set to kickoff this November, Canadian Soccer Star Alphonso Davies made a big announcement on social media earlier today.
Canada welcomed me and my family & gave us the opportunity for a better life. it enabled me to live my dreams. It’s a great honour to play for Canada and I want to give back, so I’ve decided that I will donate this years World Cup earnings to charity.

He hasn’t said which charity he’ll be donating to yet, but he is an ambassador of the United Nations’ Refugee Agency, so there’s a good chance the charity will be related. Davies parents were fleeing the war in Liberia when he was born in a refugee camp in Ghana. they were then able to emigrate to Canada in 2005 when Davies was 5 years old.
